A kitchen sink hose is very useful. You can direct the water to your dishes better compared to simply aiming the dishes on the water from a faucet. However, as we use the kitchen hose often, they tend to deterioration over time. The hose will get brittle and start to leak. If this happens, you will need to replace it.

You do not need to be a plumber or hire a plumber to replace a kitchen hose. This is a very simple project that you can do if you follow the instructions below.

Materials that you will need:

  • A new kitchen hose as replacement
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Plumber’s tape

Prepare all of your materials

All of the tools you need for this project are easy to find and are inexpensive. You probably have an adjustable wrench already somewhere in your toolbox. For the replacement hose and plumber’s tape, go and visit the nearest hardware or home supply shop. To be sure that the replacement hose will fit, choose the same brand and model as before. You can even bring the old one as reference. Other alternatives are to buy at least the same brand as your faucet or purchase a universal kitchen hose kit.

Turn the main water valve off

Before you start, make sure you turn off the water valve for your kitchen faucet. The valve is normally located under the sink. Turn it in a clockwise direction. This step will ensure that no water will come out of the faucet even if you accidentally turn the faucet handle during the hose replacement.

Remove the old hose

Using an adjustable wrench, disengage the hose under the sink. You should find a screw underneath the sink. Put more pressure if need be especially if your hose has been there for quite some time. As soon as you are able to remove the screw, carefully draw the hose out through the top hole in your sink.

Prepare the new hose

The hose kit usually has a manual included. Take time to read it and note if there are special instructions. Otherwise, proceed with the next steps below.

Install the new hose

Insert the hose from the top of the sink. Thread the screw of the faucet through the hose. Add the other screw in place and make sure they are all tightly fastened. Put some plumber’s tape to the screws.

Turn on the water valve

Turn the valve underneath the sink in a counterclockwise direction. Now, turn the faucet handle in the same direction. The water should come out from the hose. Observe if there are leaks.

You now have a new kitchen hose installed. It would be good to invest on a good quality hose, as you will be using it a few times a day, every day, for the next few years. You will really get your money worth before it gets broken. You will end up saving more rather than purchasing a cheap brand and material, as you will end up installing new hose every few months.
